Aged Care Course in Perth for International Students

If you’re an international student looking to build a meaningful full or part-time career in Australia, aged care is one of the most rewarding and in-demand sectors to step into.

With a rapidly ageing population and a consistent need for qualified carers, aged care is one of the fastest-growing sectors in Australia and WA.

If you’re an international student considering Perth aged care courses, you’ll find that WA offers excellent training options, real career potential, and a lifestyle that supports international learners.

Here’s what you need to know before you enrol:

Why So Many International Students Are Choosing Aged Care

Australia’s ageing population means aged care workers are in constant demand. This opens real job opportunities for international students (subject to visa work limitations). It’s one of the few industries where you can start small and build a lifelong career.

Some reasons international students are drawn to aged care:

  • Strong job outcomes: The high demand for aged care means that there are plenty of opportunities for work across Perth’s suburbs.
  • Transferable skills: The practical care, communication, and health knowledge that you learn in aged care courses can be applied anywhere.
  • Career flexibility: With the right courses, you can choose to pursue residential aged care, home support, disability services or community roles.
  • Easily accessible: The minimum aged care course is an entry-level qualification, allowing international students to start from scratch.
  • Great flexibility: With a diverse range of aged care courses available in Perth, students can choose courses that work with their busy schedules.

Entry Requirements

Short Courses

Entry requirements for aged care training changes depending on the selected course and your provider.

Our short courses are highly accessible to international and domestic students, perfect for quick upskilling without long-term commitment.

These courses typically involve little to no prerequisites or qualifications.

Accredited Courses

Our courses are designed to be accessible, even for students with no previous healthcare experience. While every provider is slightly different, common requirements for our accredited courses include:

  • Minimum standards for foundation skills (literacy and numeracy levels) necessary to perform in the role.
  • A current National Police Clearance.
  • Proof of vaccinations (a minimum of 3 covid vaccinations and a current-year influenza vaccination).
  • An appropriate visa to study the accredited certificate.
  • Reasonable fitness and physically capable of performing the role.
  • Signing a Statutory Declaration about criminal history at enrolment.

*Please note that not all Bestwest Care accredited courses are available to international students. The recommended starting point is the Certificate III in Individual Support.

What to Expect from an Aged Care Course in Perth

Perth is a popular choice for international students because of its relaxed lifestyle, friendly communities, and lower living costs compared to cities like Sydney or Melbourne.

Some things students love about studying age care in Perth:

  • Smaller class sizes and personalised support.
  • Blended delivery (mix of online and in-person learning).
  • Flexible schedules for part-time jobs.
  • One of the shortest accredited course options in Perth

How to Choose the Right Training Provider

Not all aged care training providers are the same. Providing aged care and disability courses in Perth since 2005, we know what to look out for when choosing the right training organisation for you:

  • Nationally recognised – Make sure your course will hold weight in your field with a trusted provider.
  • The right support – Studying in a new country can be overwhelming. Look for a provider that understands your needs.
  • Experienced trainers – The best training comes from people who’ve done the work themselves such as nurses, support workers, and community carers with real-life experience.
  • Flexible learning – At Bestwest care we aim to make all our courses accessible, flexible and practical. With a mix of in-person and blended online courses with full-time or part-time schedules.
  • Local reputation – Training with a provider that’s trusted by WA’s aged care facilities helps you make industry connections and find work faster.
