Manual Handling Course FAQs

What is the Manual Handling course in Perth?

The Manual Handling course is a half-day training program designed to provide skills and knowledge for safe work practices in caring for clients within health care, aged care, and community environments.

Do you offer an online manual handling course or refresher?

No – manual handling is a hands-on, practical skill, so both the full course and the refresher are delivered in person at our Kwinana training centre (or on-site for group bookings), never online. This makes sure you physically practise correct lifting, transferring and equipment techniques.

Who should take the Manual Handling training in Perth?

The course is suitable for nurses, student nurses, health workers, support workers, aged care and disability workers across various industry types and community groups.

What topics are covered in the Manual Handling course?

The course covers topics including safe manual handling techniques, use of hoists and slide sheets, assistance with ambulation, transfers between bed and chair, fall management, and following mobility care plans.

How long is the Manual Handling course Perth?

The course is a half-day (4-hour) practical training session. Every Thursday and fortnightly Mondays from 9am to 12:30pm.

What are the course fees for Manual Handling training?

The standard course fee is $125 per person, with a discounted rate of $85 available for nursing students.

Given it is a half-day course, bundle packages are available to make best use of the day, including combinations with CPR training.

How long does a manual handling certificate last?

There’s no strict legislated expiry on a manual handling certificate, but most aged care, disability and healthcare employers expect it to be renewed every 12 months to keep skills and technique current. In practice, how long your manual handling certificate lasts comes down to your employer’s compliance policy – check their specific requirements.

How often do I need a manual handling refresher?

Most Perth employers recommend a manual handling refresher every 12 months, or sooner if you change roles, return to work after a break, or your workplace introduces new equipment or procedures. If you’ve already completed this course and are due to renew, you can rebook the same half-day session as your refresher. Apply now.

Is this course suitable for Perth aged care workers and nurses?

Yes. This Manual Handling course serves both audiences: as a manual handling course for aged care workers covering hoists, slide sheets and safe transfers, and as a manual handling course for nurses preparing for placement or ward-based compliance requirements.

Do I get a nationally recognised certificate for Manual Handling?

No. Manual Handling is a non-accredited half-day short course, so you’ll receive a Bestwest Care certificate of completion rather than a nationally recognised formal qualification.

Are there any prerequisites for the Manual Handling course?

There are no formal entry requirements for this Manual Handling course. As it includes hands-on practical training, you’ll need to be reasonably fit and physically capable of taking part on the day.

Is the Manual Handling course fee-free in WA?

No. This Manual Handling course is a fee-for-service half-day short course priced at $125 per person ($85 for nursing students), payable upon booking. WA Government Fee-Free funding applies to eligible accredited qualifications, such as our Certificate III in Individual Support and Certificate IV in Mental Health, not to this short course.
